Belgian embassy in Rabat

How can we give sense, dignity, beauty and sustainable responsibility to a highly symbolic program such as an Embassy?

Taking the typical traditional local vernacular form, the riad (a flat primary volume with patios), as a basis of composition, and by lifting part of the volume for the reception, we create an event in the site that will be identifiable by all, as a new landmark. The project incorporates ‘time-tested’ solutions to protect against the sun, fixed vertical sunshades, but meets « passivehouse », « net zero energy » as well as BREEAM excellent standards.

This performance is achieved by simple solutions based essentially on the treatment of the building envelope but engineered with the pragmatic Belgian know-how in sustainable design.
